During my internship with designer Fabien Dumas, I unexpectedly shifted from lighting design to co-developing a large-scale group exhibition for Ventura Lambrate. The project, a collaboration with Werner Aisslinger Studio and event agency DMY, focused on presenting products in theatrical settings that traveled inside custom-built shipping crates. I contributed to both concept development and hands-on fabrication. One of my key ideas was to display each setting within a 4:3-format crate raised on trestles and was adopted to frame each designer’s work like a stage set, optimized for photography and social media sharing at the time. What began as a behind-the-scenes role became a formative experience in exhibition design, blending storytelling, scenography, and logistics. Years later, when asked how I’d approach it differently, I said: I’d make the crates square formatting them for the evolving visual language of digital platforms like instagram.
I’m Andrea Brena, a designer, strategist, and cultural researcher working across industries, disciplines, and communities.
My practice is driven by the curiosity for how systems shape behavior, how stories influence belonging, and how design can enable participation at every level.
